1. Overview

Sapa Grand Golf Course is the first championship course set high in the mountain town of Sapa, using the natural relief of the Hoang Lien Son range to shape its layout. Greg Norman turned the 1,500-meter elevation, shifting mists, and thin highland air into strategic features, dialing in fairway widths and bunker depths to match the altitude.

The routing asks players to weigh layup versus risk-reward on dramatic par-4s and par-5s that climb and fall past terraced rice-field views. The wind shifts along the ridgeline and clouds can drop visibility in an instant, so trajectory control is essential. Nearby attractions such as the Fansipan cable car and Coc Ly Village make it easy to pair golf with trekking.

Since the July 2023 opening, it has served as a training ground for northern tour players and a cooling-season escape for Hanoi and Korean golfers.

4.1 Layout & features

Sapa Grand climbs and descends along ridges and valleys to highlight its mountain golf identity. The teeing areas sit high and narrow, while fairways twist sharply left and right, limiting the direction of the second shot.

• Thin, high-altitude air increases carry distances, but steep downhill slopes can cause the ball to run much farther than expected, so club selection is critical.
• Par-3s that thread across ridgelines pair big drops with swirling winds, and some greens perch above ravines leaving little margin for recovery.
• The clubhouse offers a 10-bay indoor practice area and standalone putting studio for bad weather, plus local ethnic-caddie teams to introduce regional culture.
